Malcolm in the Middle’s Frankie Muniz Shares New Look at Disney+ Reboot: ‘I Was Told Not to Post This Yet’

No one is the boss of Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz. The actor recently shared a new behind-the-scenes look at the sitcom’s upcoming reboot before he was supposed to, with the theme song’s repeated lyric, “You’re not the boss of me now,” being used as his scapegoat.
“I was told not to post this yet, but then I remembered the theme song. I’m just too excited for y’all to see the new episodes and I miss my brothers,” Muniz captioned his latest post on the social media platform X, which includes a new photo of himself with his Malcolm in the Middle co-stars Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson. The three appeared in all seven seasons of the show’s original run as Malcolm, Reese, and Franchise, respectively, the three oldest children of Hal and Lois. The Malcolm in the Middle revival series was announced in December 2024, just ahead of the show’s 25th anniversary this past January. The revival will consist of four 30-minute episodes, all written by series creator Linwood Boomer and directed by Ken Kwapis. The official logline for the revival reads, “Malcolm and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
Who’s Back for the Malcolm in the Middle Revival?
Besides the aforementioned names, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will also see the highly anticipated returns of Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek as Hal and Lois, respectively. Unlike the rest of the returning stars, Cranston and Kaczmarek have actually reprised their roles since the original series went off the air, with the pair shooting an alternate ending for the former’s post-Malcolm in the Middle series, Breaking Bad. Serving as a parody of the ending to the show Newhart, the alternate ending revealed that the entirety of the Emmy-winning drama series was nothing but a bad dream that Hal had.
Malcolm in the Middle fans may have noticed that the photo Muniz shared is missing one major original star: Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed younger brother Dewey in Malcolm in the Middle. He declined to return for the Disney+ revival, having quietly retired from acting over a decade ago. Fargo actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, who bears a strong physical resemblance to Sullivan, has been cast to replace Sullivan as Dewey.
Other newcomers include Anthony Timpano as Malcolm’s youngest brother, Jamie, who was born during the original show and was played by two sets of twin child actors; Vaughan Murrae as the youngest child, Kelly, whose existence was hinted at in the series finale of Malcolm in the Middle; Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah, who has “the same sarcastic humor, same impulsiveness and the same frighteningly high intelligence as him, but she’s far more sensitive and emotional;” and Kiana Madeira as Malcolm’s girlfriend Tristan.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2026.
