Alberta may be bracing for some snow and winter weather on the way, but it sure was a nice and warm day for much of the province yesterday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) stated in a weather summary on Tuesday that numerous spots in Alberta broke records, with the Red Deer area setting a new record of a daily maximum temperature with a lovely -11.8°C yesterday, surpassing the old record of 11.7°C set back in 1962. Records in the area date back to 1904, making it the highest daily maximum temperature recorded on any Dec. 15 in 121 years.
ECCC added that the following areas set a daily maximum temperature record on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025:
Hendrickson Creek Area
New record of 8.9
Old record of 8.0 set in 2023
Records in this area have been kept since 1995
Lloydminster Area
New record of 5.9
Old record of 5.3 set in 2013
Records in this area have been kept since 1952
Red Deer Area
New record of 11.8
Old record of 11.7 set in 1962
Records in this area have been kept since 1904
Sunder Area
New record of 12.9
Old record of 11.4 set in 2002
Records in this area have been kept since 1993
ECCC added that the temperature records reported have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographic area that were active during the period of record.
