WASHINGTON D.C. — The Philadelphia 76ers may never lose again.

Ok. That’s an overreaction. But, still, you don’t see a win like the 76ers’ 139-134 victory against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night very often. The Sixers trailed for much of the evening. They trailed by as many as 19 points. They trailed by 13 points with five minutes remaining. And when overtime came at Capital One Arena, they trailed for much of that, too.

So, how did Philadelphia move to 4-0 to start the season? The 76ers showed incredible resilience. They got 39 points and 10 assists from Tyrese Maxey. They got a game-tying 3-pointer from Quentin Grimes in the last minute of regulation. They got a defensive masterclass from Adem Bona, who blocked five shots —  many of those came down the stretch. And in a game where they failed to defend for much of the night, their defense suddenly came alive when it mattered the most.

Now, the Sixers are 4-0. This is Philly’s second 4-0 start since that 2001 NBA Finals run (2019-20). They win on the second night of a back-to-back, and they won a game where they lacked energy and lively legs throughout.

With each passing game, the Sixers are sending a message of this being a different season for them.
