Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez
was at the wheel of the car that hit and killed an 81-year-old
man while he was using a motorized wheelchair in the province of
Como town of Fenegrò on Tuesday, sources said.
The accident took place on provincial highway 32.
Inter cancelled coach Cristian Chivu’s press conference ahead of
their Serie A match against Fiorentina on Wednesday as a mark of
respect.
Martinez, a 27-year-old Spaniard, is understudy to Inter’s
first-choice keeper Yann Sommer.
He joined Inter from Genoa last year.
He made his debut in December, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0
win over Udinese in an Italian Cup tie.
