Scots ambulance worker dies on shift as tributes paid to ‘true gent’

Tributes have been paid to an ambulance worker who died on shift.
Gary Todd, who was known as Toddy to pals, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 23. The 41-year-old, from Kirkcaldy, served in the Scots Guards before taking on his role as a technician with the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Colleagues lead the tributes to Gary as they shared their heartache at the tragedy.
Kenny Freeburn, East Regional Director, Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and our heart-felt condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.”
Gary was a die-hard Raith Rovers fan and supporters are planning to pay tribute with a minute’s applause during their Championship match with Greenock Morton on Saturday.
In a heartfelt tribute, the Rovers supporters club said: “Gary Todd died suddenly on Thursday while on duty with the Scottish Ambulance service.
“Gary (aka. Toddy or GT) was a much loved son, brother, partner and amazing friend to many. He was a lifelong Raith Rovers supporter who brought love, friendship & laughter everywhere he went.

“He will be hugely missed and never forgotten by all who knew and loved him. On Saturday November 1 during the Raith v Morton game, we’d like to invite all fans at the match to join us in an applause during the 41st minute to respect and remember our fallen Rovers brother.”
A spokesperson for Raith Rovers FC added: “Everyone at Raith Rovers is deeply saddened to hear of Gary’s passing. Gary was a dedicated supporter and Season Ticket holder at Raith Rovers, and we all send our condolences to his loved ones. We hope that supporters will join in the minute’s applause on the 41st minute at this Saturday’s game vs Morton.”
Loved ones and fellow Rovers supporters remembered Gary as a “true gent” in moving tributes shared on social media.
Michaela Lessels said: “An absolute gentleman with a smile as big as his heart.. your shift is done lad… go and rest now.”

Alison Mutter said: “Absolutely heartbreaking. He was out dealing with my mum when she was unwell. He was brilliant and had such a caring nature. Thinking of his family and friends.”
Craig McGregor said: “Such a sad day! Served in the Scots Guards with him. Good guy. Such a shock. Thinking of family at this time.”
Jamie Watson added: “Great pal of mine from school. So so sad and what a world we stay in that you go to work an don’t come home.”
Tracy Smith added: “So sorry to hear this sad news. I hope the applause during the Raith v Morton game brings some comfort to Gary’s family and friends.”
Gary’s beloved Raith Rovers take on Greenock Morton at Stark’s Park at 3pm on Saturday.
