A large crowd gathered at Owen Sound City Hall this morning to wish CFOS alumna and long-time host of CBC’s Morning Live show Heather Hiscox farewell.
Hiscox held a four-hour live show in the city as part of her cross country farewell tour, with Owen Sound being the last show on the road.
“To choose to come back to where everything began, and it was just so perfect,” says Hiscox.
During the show, she joined 89.3 CFOS FM for a brief segment with Paul Hill and Fred Wallace. Hiscox worked at 560 CFOS in the early 1980s before moving on to study journalism and have an over 40-year career in media.

“I had excellent teachers, I had wonderful role models in community leaders who enabled me to come from this town, which has given me so much. Everything here in terms of exposure and experience and learning to enable me to move through my career and eventually to attain a national level. It all started here and I am grateful for all of the lessons and all of the teachers and all of the experiences and the joy and innocence of a small town growing up in the 60s and 70s, what a gift that was. I truly am so thankful for what Owen Sound has given me for the life-long interest that the people of Owen Sound have shown me as a result of some of my experiences. I just couldn’t be happier to have this city and these people showcased for the country today,” says Hiscox.
She also highlighted local organizations including OSHaRE, as well as spoke with previous teachers, Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy, and local Indigenous Chef Zach Keeshig, which Hiscox says was a particular highlight.
“He is just a wonder,” says Hiscox. “I grew up with some good restaurants, but not of that calibre and that he has chosen to invest in Owen Sound and to build in Owen Sound on a national calibre and he has such admirable goals, I just wish him every success.”
Hiscox wrapped up her show by signing Take Me Out To The Ball Game with the crowd to wish the Toronto Blue Jays good luck in the World Series.
Boddy says he thought this morning’s show was fantastic.
“It was really wonderful having someone that has been so successful from our town return to have a bit of a homecoming and a goodbye,” says Boddy.
Hiscox says she probably sees more time in Grey Bruce once she officially retires.
