Three dead after plane crashes in Lafayette Parish, officials say

Three people were killed Tuesday afternoon after a small plane crashed near the Family Dollar off Gloria Switch Road in Carencro, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
LPSO spokesperson Sgt. Chris Cormier said officials were investigating after a witness reported a Baron Beechcraft aircraft circling the air, then crashing down near the roundabout at Gloria Switch Road and La. Highway 93.
“We’re not releasing their information right now out of respect for the family members. The aircraft was a Baron Beechcraft, it’s a small aircraft with two props. That’s pretty much all we have right now,” Cormier said.
Deputies were blocking off the scene and asking drivers to avoid the area as they awaited investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration to arrive.
No other details about the crash were immediately available.
