Ford has announced a major powertrain lineup overhaul for both the Everest SUV and its top-selling Ranger ute in Australia for 2026.
The 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine – which produces 154kW and 500Nm – will be phased out of both the Australian model range and Ford’s global lineup.
Also discontinued as part of the update in Australia at least, is the 6-speed automatic transmission, with the 10-speed becoming the standard transmission across all automatic examples.
Furthermore, the 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel V6 will be offered for more Everest and Ranger variants, although Ford has yet to officially announce which variants will receive the engine.
Finally, the 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel engine – which will soon become the standard engine option in both the Ranger and the Everest – has received performance and durability upgrades, receiving a new fuel injection system and timing chain. However, any changes to the single-turbo 2.0-litre’s specifications are yet to be announced by Ford. Currently, this engine produces 125kW and 405Nm.
Meanwhile, the Ranger Raptor’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo Petrol V6 and the PHEV model’s 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain will remain a part of the model lineup.
This announcement comes a matter of months ahead of the Ford Ranger Super Duty’s expected launch in early 2026.
Post-powertrain update Ford Ranger and Everest examples are slated to arrive in Australia in the first half of next year.
