Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will be a part of TNT Sports’ team for the Reds’ Premier League showdown against Aston Villa. The iconic midfielder will be one of the experts for the encounter, which sees two of his former clubs go head-to-head.

Gerrard established himself as a legend at Anfield before departing for LA Galaxy in 2015, later returning as the under-18s manager in Kirkby. However, he left his position with the Liverpool youth team to join Rangers, where he tasted Scottish Premiership success, before making his switch to the English top-flight, taking up the Villa Park post.

He managed 11 months in charge of Villa before he was relieved of his duties. Gerrard would return to management, taking the Al-Ettifaq job, but left in January.

But on Saturday, he will be at Anfield to dissect his former clubs, where he enjoyed subsequent spells as a player and a manager. Liverpool are looking to return to winning ways after a dreadful run of four straight Premier League defeats, but they welcome Unai Emery’s side, who replaced Gerrard, as they enjoy a run of six matches without defeat.

Gerrard will be alongside former Liverpool teammates Steve McManaman and Joe Cole for the meeting at Anfield.

The 45-year-old has been back in the headlines recently following an interview with former England teammate and Manchester United rival Rio Ferdinand.

Gerrard discussed the prospect of returning to football management, and the interview’s release coincided with increasing speculation over a return to Ibrox after Russell Martin’s unceremonious departure.

However, after meeting with the Gers hierarchy, the former England captain turned down a return to management.

During his sitdown with Ferdinand, he revealed: “I felt like I had that to a tee at Rangers [with Gary McAllister and Michael Beale]. A lot of coach changes at Aston Villa and over in Saudi, I don’t think helped me from a personal point of view.

“I’d love another go at some point. I want to change a few things and improve a few things and come back fresh, with a few different people around myself.

“I’d love another couple of challenges doing this and that’s what I’m working on in the background at the moment.

“A few different ideas, a few different people around me.

“Now I’m enjoying family time and doing a lot of things that I haven’t been able to do. But there’s a part of me that still feels that there’s a bit of unfinished business in terms of wanting to go in and face another couple of exciting challenges.”
