Brief periods of heavy rain could produce rates approaching 1 inch per hour, potentially causing minor flooding in urban and poor drainage areas.
The weather service forecast includes “isolated severe thunderstorms possible with locally damaging wind gusts or a brief tornado, resulting in tree damage and power outages.”

Strong easterly winds will increase through the day, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph inland and 40 to 50 mph along the Jersey Shore.

The weekend will bring gradually improving conditions as high pressure builds in.
Saturday will still be breezy with west winds gusting up to 25 mph, but winds will diminish through the day.
High temperatures will be in the mid 50s to around 60 degrees.

Looking ahead to early next week, high pressure will remain in control on Monday before a cold front approaches the region on Tuesday.
There is uncertainty in the forecast regarding a potential system developing off the East Coast, but current guidance suggests it will likely remain south of New Jersey.
Temperatures will remain near seasonal levels, with overnight lows mainly in the 30s and 40s.
Some locations, particularly in the Pine Barrens, could experience a freeze Saturday or Sunday night.
