Jesse Eisenberg Delivers Disappointing Update on Sequel to 89% RT Cult-Classic Horror Movie

Whenever Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson are at the helm of a movie, a good time is guaranteed. Be it their iconic dystopian comedy, Zombieland, or the upcoming Now You See Me: Now You Don’t — which reunites them with the former’s director, Ruben Fleischer — fans are in for a ride. As the heist film comes up with its third movie in the franchise, a Zombieland threequel is still on fans’ minds. But as Eisenberg reveals in a new conversation, a fourth heist movie is more likely than our return to the dystopian world.
The trio of Eisenberg, Harrelson, and Fleischer first got together on 2009’s Zombieland, which was a massive success at the box office and critically. However, the sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, came out a decade later and is considered superior to the original movie. In times when reboots, sequels, and known IPs are the norm, a third Zombieland movie shouldn’t be unlikely. “Yes, I would like to [make Zombieland 3],” Eisenberg told ComicBook. He specifically mentions the time gap between the two movies compared to the Now You See Me franchise, explaining:
“Zombieland was, I think a 10-year break in between. This movie, we did one, and then like three years later, and then 10 years later. So, Now You See Me is probably more likely to have more movies than Zombieland.”
‘Zombieland’ Is a Successful Franchise
Zombieland follows four survivors in a world where a virus has turned most people into zombies. As the makeshift family heads to a rumored safe haven in Los Angeles, they follow strict survival rules and zombie-killing strategies. The movie cast Eisenberg as Columbus, Harrelson as Tallahassee, Emma Stone as Wichita, and Abigail Breslin as Little Rock. It was a massive success, earning $102.4 million worldwide and an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score. The movie is worth a watch for its screenplay, witty dialogue, comedy, and performances.
A decade later, Zombieland: Double Tap brought the cast back, along with Fleischer, for a worthy sequel that builds upon the deadly world, its survival rules, and crazy adventures. Joining the original gang in the sequel were Rosario Dawson as Nevada, Zoey Deutch as Madison, Avan Jogia, Luke Wilson as Albuquerque, and Thomas Middleditch as Flagstaff. The movie was loved for its action sequences, improvised dialogue, and cinematography, earning $125.2 million worldwide. Given the success of the franchise and its ability to keep things fresh, if the threequel does arrive, fans are sure to get their cardio in and buckle up for a wild ride.
Zombieland is available on Peacock. Now You See Me 3 is in theaters on November 14. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
