Baseball Great Was Wrong About the Blue Jays

Legendary pitcher has changed his tune on the Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays are one win away from accomplishing the ultimate goal in baseball: to win a World Series. They are in tough against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who just so happen to be the reigning champions.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette, and Alejandro Kirk over Games 4 and 5, the Blue Jays earned the right to close out the World Series on their home turf. They head into Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead over the Dodgers. The expected starting pitchers for Friday night’s game are Kevin Gausman for Toronto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers.
One retired pitching legend had one prediction of how things would go for the Blue Jays, and they have since proved him wrong.
Curt Schilling on the Toronto Blue Jays
During Game 5, former Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling took to social media to reveal a new opinion.
“First to admit, no matter how this turns out, I was 100% wrong predicting this one,” Schilling wrote during Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. “This Blue Jays team is so much better than I thought they were.”
Before the World Series began, Schilling spoke on his The Complete Game podcast. He revealed his thoughts on what he believes will be the key to the series.
“If the Blue Jays are going to win, Vladdy is going to have to have a monster series,” Schilling said on the October 22nd episode of his podcast. “I just don’t think the Dodgers are going to allow him to do that. I think that they’re going to pitch around him and make that lineup beat him, and I’m not sure that they can.”
“I’m not sure that the Blue Jays’ pitching is going to be able to keep that Dodgers offense in check. It does feel like a mismatch.”
Blue Jays Pitching in the World Series
One Blue Jays pitcher who’s done well to keep the Dodgers in check has been Yesavage. The 22-year-old rookie has been dynamite for Toronto. He leads all pitchers in the World Series with 17 strikeouts in his two starts.
Gausman has also done well against the Dodgers’ offense. He’s thrown six strikeouts, no walks, and posted a 0.60 WHIP in six innings of work. This was all during one start, and he will get his second start for Game 6.
The Blue Jays’ bullpen has been impressive as well. Chris Bassitt and Eric Lauer have been dependable when called upon. Neither pitcher has allowed a run, and they have combined for three hits against them in 9 2/3 innings. Additionally, Bassitt has five strikeouts to Lauer’s three.
On the other side of the ball, Guerrero Jr has had a solid series. He has hit two home runs, earned three RBIs, and had eight hits. Guerrero, Addison Barger, and Shohei Ohtani are the only three batters to have an on-base percentage of .500.
No matter how things turn out in Game 6 (and if needed, Game 7), it’s clear that the Blue Jays’ pitching and batting have stepped up to the plate in a significant way for this World Series.
