When Aishwarya Rai said she won’t even entertain thought of divorce, spoke about living with Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan after marriage

The extremely talented and beautiful Aishwarya Rai married born-with-legacy actor Abhishek Bachchan back in 2007. However, recently there have been a lot of talks about their supposed divorce. Both actors have always been extremely private about their lives and have obviously stayed away from this story as well. Even though nothing is confirmed, the couple did discuss divorce during a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where both of them shared their honest opinion about the dissolution of a marriage.

While giving a one-of-a-kind interview to TV show host Oprah Winfrey, the host talked about their career, personal lives and marriage in-depth. Abhishek also shared with the audience the story of how he proposed to Aishwarya. He said, “I was filming in New York, and I used to stand on the balcony of my hotel room and wish that I could be with her. Some time later I took her to the same balcony, and she asked me to marry her.”

Oprah then played a video clip that showed the chaos outside Abhishek and Aishwarya’s wedding and asked about how elaborate Indian weddings are. Abhishek told her that Indian weddings are pretty long, as Indians like to celebrate everything. Oprah then joked that it must be hard getting a divorce after such an elaborate wedding. Aishwarya quickly replied and said, “We don’t even try and entertain that thought.”

The host then asked about the Indian culture of staying with one’s parents even after marriage. Oprah said, “So you’re both living with your (Abhishek) parents? How does that work?” Abhishek answered with a question of his own and asked Oprah whether she lives with her parents. When the host said no, Abhishek asked, “How does that work?”

Aishwarya also made the news for her wit during interviews back in 2005, when she appeared on the David Letterman show. The host had a similar question about Indians living with their parents and asked whether it was common practice in the country. Aishwarya replied, “It’s fine to live with your parents because it’s also common in India that we don’t have to take appointments to meet our parents for dinner.
