The double decker bus is full of passengers in the footage, with the camera panning to multiple people shooting the fireworks directly at the bus.

Other video shows a group of people dressed in black, with their hoods up and faces obscured by masks filming on phones as they fire the rockets at people walking on the other side of the road.

Two police vehicles then pull up at the scene and officers dash towards the alleged culprits.

West Midlands Police said “pockets of disorder” were reported from 9pm on Friday near New Street, near the city’s main train station.

Then at around 2.15am on Saturday, more fireworks were launched towards buildings, police officers and each other on Bagot Street.

Those arrested were aged between 13 and 23, including for possession of an offensive weapon.

The force statement said: “We arrested nine people after tackling unacceptable disorder where fireworks were launched in Birmingham city centre.

“We took strong action following a number of incidents where fireworks were set off last night and into this morning (1 November).

“From around 9pm there were pockets of disorder where some were thrown dangerously near New Street.

“Then at around 2.15am there were fireworks launched by a group towards buildings, police officers and each other in Bagot Street.

“Thankfully, no-one was injured as a result of a firework being thrown.

“We detained nine people – aged between 13 and 23 – in connection with public order, throwing fireworks and possession of an offensive weapon.

“We won’t tolerate such appalling actions and we’ll continue to have a visible police presence in and around the city centre. We also have a dispersal order in place.

“We want to be clear; anyone who is involved in such irresponsible behaviour risks being arrested and prosecuted.

“We’re focussed on ensuring the city centre remains a safe place for residents, visitors and those who work in the area.”
