Jaylen Brown is the Celtics ‘Name to Know’ Player of the Game in Monday’s loss vs. Jazz

BOSTON — The Celtics came up short on Monday night against the Utah Jazz despite a monster offensive night from Jaylen Brown in a 105-103 loss at TD Garden.

Brown finished with a game-high 36 points, making him Monday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.

Brown scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter as he tried to rally Boston from a 11-point fourth quarter deficit in a rollercoaster affair. Boston led by as many as 14 points in the first half but watched a double-digit halftime disappear after surrendering a 38-point third quarter to the Jazz.

Brown helped to keep Boston’s offense afloat with his attacks in the paint, going 13-of-19 from 2-point range and tallying 11 free throw attempts in the setback. He missed all nine of his 3-point attempts but still managed to shot just under 50 percent (13-of-28) from the field.

The All-Star is now averaging 26.7 points per game on the season while shooting 52 percent from the field.

Ultimately, it was a tough night from the perimeter for not just Brown but the entire Celtics roster. The team hit 21.6 percent of their 3-point attempts (11-of-51) which wasn’t enough for Brown’s scoring effort to overcome. A brutal night on the boards also proved to be costly as the Jazz piled up 15 offensive rebounds which led to 13 second chance points, including the game-winner by Jusuf Nurkic with 0.6 seconds remaining.

The Celtics and Brown will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they face off against the Washington Wizards.
