Community Day to bring free movies and cheap snacks to Ontario theatres this month

Cineplex is hosting a day of free movies in Ontario this month.
Now in its 13th year, Community Day is returning to participating Cineplex locations on Nov. 15 for film enthusiasts to kick back, relax and enjoy a motion picture at no cost.
And not only that, but there will also be free gaming at participating The Rec Room locations, along with Playdium.
“Cineplex Community Day is consistently one of my favourite days of the year, as we welcome guests from communities across the country to join us for a morning of free movies or to engage in some friendly competition at The Rec Room or Playdium,” says Ellis Jacob, president and CEO at Cineplex.
Free Community Day movie tickets will only be available in-venue from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
This year’s movie selection includes “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” “Sing 2,” and “The Wild Robot.”
Discounted snacks will also be available to munch on during the film.
Regular popcorn, a regular drink and select candy will be priced at $3 plus tax until 11 a.m.
Cineplex’s XSCAPE locations will also offer free 30-minute non-redemption play cards or tokens for arcade action before or after the movie.
From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Rec Room and Playdium, guests will receive free non-redemption one-hour game bands on Nov. 15.
Until noon, The Rec Room will also offer $3 fries and mini doughnuts. And at Playdium, regular popcorn, fries and select candy will also be $3.
Community Day is run in support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, with $1 from every food and beverage purchase, play card and game band purchase and reloads donated to the organization.
“Over the past 13 years, our Community Day event has supported multiple charities, making differences in the communities in which we live and work,” says Jacob.
Locations not participating in Community Day include Cineplex VIP Cinemas Don Mills.
Cineplex will also launch a new cheap deal at theatres this month, but it comes with a catch.
Starting Nov. 10, film buffs can head to the theatre to enjoy a screening of a new major release for $8.99, compared to their regular priced tickets at around $16.
However, audiences won’t know what film they’re actually there to see until the lights go down.
“We’re flipping the script with an advanced screening of an unreleased movie. No title. No spoilers. Just you, a seat, and the chance to be first to see what everyone’s going to be talking about next,” according to the team at Cineplex.
“The only clue? It’s brand new.”
The special movie screenings will take place on Mondays as part of Cineplex’s “Monday Surprise Premieres.” The film’s rating will be available on the Cineplex website before the screening.
The experience will take place at select Cineplex theatres across Canada, including Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre and the Cineplex Cinemas at the Queensway, Yonge and Eglinton and Eglinton Town Centre.
Advance tickets are already available online.
Cineplex has more than 150 theatres across Canada. It opened its first theatre complex in Toronto in 1979. The 21-screen megaplex was house at the Eaton Centre and earned a place in the Guinness World Records for its size and 1,600 seats, according to the company.
Enjoy the show!
