A UPS plane carrying three people has crashed near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, with authorities racing to the “active situation” as smoke billows from the crash site.
Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed the unfolding situation, stating multiple agencies have been deployed.
“LMPD and multiple other agencies are responding to reports of a plane crash near Fern Valley and Grade Lane,” a statement on X said.

“Grade lane will be closed indefinitely between Stooges and Crittenden. Injuries reported.
“This is an active scene with fire and debris. Stay away.”
It is understood that the plane crash occurred just after takeoff, with video on social media suggesting the plane was on fire before it became airborne.
The crash site appears to be in built-up industrial area, with a trail of fire and smoke scene in the wake of the horrific crash.
UPS confirmed it’s MD-11 had been involved in an accident, sharing a statement online.
“At approximately 5:20 PM ET tonight, UPS Flight 2976 from Louisville, KY to Honolulu, an MD-11 with three crew members onboard, was involved in an accident in Louisville. At this time, we have not confirmed any injuries/casualties,” the group said.
“UPS will release more facts as they become available, but the National Transportation Safety Board is in charge of the investigation and will be the primary source of information about the official investigation.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also released a statement.
“UPS Flight 2976 crashed around 5:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Nov. 4, after departing from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky. The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was headed to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu”.
“The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and will provide all updates. This information is preliminary and subject to change.”
Shocking video from multiple angles quickly emerged on social media.
One video shows an enormous explosion from where the plane appears to have crashed into an industrial park near the airport.
