Mikie Sherrill (D-New Jersey), a former Navy helicopter pilot and former federal prosecutor, is projected to win the race for New Jersey governor, according to the Associated Press, defeating Republican former state representative Jack Ciattarelli. Sherrill’s victory fends off what would have been an upset for the Democratic Party in a once reliably blue state that has swung right in recent years.
