The days ahead will see “changeable” weather with widespread outbreaks of rain at the weekend, according to Met Éireann.

The showery trend looks to extend into next week too, with the national forecaster predicting “higher than average” rain for this time of year.

Starting with this morning, it will be dark and damp across much of the country as rain clears northwards. Showers will return to southern counties by the evening with highest temperatures of 13C to 16C.

Tomorrow promises to have just scattered rainfall as sunny spells come in from the west with the clearing of cloud eastwards. Leinster will be hit by the worst of the rain, leaving elsewhere much drier with highest temperatures of 12C to 15C.

Tomorrow night will be mostly dry at first, but clouds and rain will shift southwards as temperatures dip to between 4C and 8C.

Friday will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered rain in the southwest as temperature reach between 11C and 14C. The night will see rain shift northeastwards while the rest of the country will remain mostly dry as temperatures of 5C to 10C.

As we enter the weekend, dry spells are forecast to persist over the majority of the country but showers will materialise along western coastal areas with daytime temperatures of between 11C to 13C. Saturday night will again be largely dry, though rain will once again visit the western counties with temperatures of between 5C and 10C.

Sunday will see the worst of the weekend weather as rain spreads eastwards across the country with the odd sunny spell and intermittent showers in the west. Highest temperatures of 11C to 15C.
