November 6 School Holiday or not?

As schools across the country return to normal after the Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday, a few regions will once again observe a school holiday on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The reason for these holidays varies from Assembly elections in Bihar to local fairs in Uttar Pradesh and rain alerts in parts of Maharashtra. Here’s the complete state-wise update on where schools will have holidays and where they will remain open.

Bihar: School Holiday in 17 Districts for Assembly Elections
Bihar will observe a school holiday on November 6 due to the first phase of Assembly elections. Voting will take place across 121 constituencies in 17 districts, and the Election Commission has directed that schools and colleges in these areas remain closed.

The closure has been declared as many schools are being used as polling stations. The holiday will allow teachers and staff to participate in election duties and ensure smooth voting.

Districts observing school holidays:
Patna, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Buxar, and Bhojpur.

Some of these districts already had a holiday on November 5 for Guru Nanak Jayanti, and they will continue to remain closed for the election holiday on November 6. Schools are expected to reopen on Friday, November 7.

Uttar Pradesh: Holiday in Anupshahr for Kartik Purnima Ganga Snan Mela
In Anupshahr, located in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, a school holiday has been declared till November 6 due to the ongoing Lakkhi Kartik Purnima Ganga Snan Mela.

This grand annual event draws thousands of devotees to the Ganga river for the holy Kartik Purnima bath. Owing to the large gatherings, the Bulandshahr District Education Officer issued an order declaring school holidays from November 3 to 6 in Anupshahr.

The holiday applies to both government and private schools, while other schools and colleges in the district will remain open. Schools in Anupshahr will reopen on Friday, November 7 after the fair concludes.

Maharashtra: Rain Alert but No Official Holiday
Schools across Maharashtra will remain open on November 6, as no official school holiday has been declared. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Raigad, Jalgaon, Beed, and Amravati districts.

If weather conditions worsen, district administrations may announce local holidays at short notice. Parents are advised to stay alert and check for updates on official school websites and WhatsApp groups.

Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and Haryana: No Holiday, Schools Open
Schools in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Punjab, and Haryana will not have a holiday on November 6. After the Guru Nanak Jayanti holiday on November 5, all schools will reopen tomorrow and continue regular classes.

Southern States: No Holiday After Cyclone Montha

However, in a few cyclone-affected areas, local holidays might still apply depending on weather conditions. Parents are advised to keep track of announcements from local education departments and school authorities.
