Todd Boehly must use Tammy Abraham trick with Tyrique George amid Crystal Palace interest

Chelsea winger Tyrique George did not get his move to Fulham on the final day of the previous transfer window.

George’s move to Fulham collapsed, but the 19-year-old could still end up getting a switch to another London club.

It was recently claimed that Crystal Palace want to sign George when the market opens again in January.

If Chelsea are thinking about letting their academy graduate go, there is something that Todd Boehly has to do.

Chelsea should include buy-back clause in potential Tyrique George sale

When Chelsea sold Tammy Abraham to AS Roma four years ago, they included a buy-back clause in the deal.

In the past, it has been claimed that Chelsea have considered re-signing Abraham, but they never did in the end. Still, it could be worth doing the same thing with George.

The England Under-21 international has a lot of potential and has shown that he is capable of scoring goals for a big club like Chelsea at his young age.

For example, George netted in the Blues’ 4-3 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week. In their previous Carabao Cup fixture, it was also the attacker who grabbed his side’s equaliser against Lincoln City.

However, his biggest contribution in a Chelsea shirt so far is, ironically, the goal he scored away at Fulham last season.

His strike drew Enzo Maresca’s side level before Pedro Neto netted the winner at the death. It was the game that set them on course for Champions League qualification.

Enzo Maresca will be keen for Tyrique George to stick around

Chelsea were very open to selling George over the summer, but Maresca will be glad that the youngster stayed and is one figure at Stamford Bridge who will not be trying to force him out next year.

George is clearly someone whom Maresca has a lot of trust in. It was Maresca who gave George his first-team debut last season.

Since then, he has gone on to make another 33 appearances under his boss, playing out wide and up front.

When Maresca spoke about George after his goal against Lincoln in the third round of the Carabao Cup, he said: “He’s playing games and helping us.”

If Chelsea do sell George with a buy-back clause, Maresca is likely to be happy about that. But his preference would probably be for him to stay.
