Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani began filling out his transition team just hours after his historic win — appointing one of Mayor Eric Adams’ former top deputies who resigned in protest and other alums from the Bill de Blasio administration.
Maria Torres-Springer will serve as housing and economic development leader during the transition period, Mamdani announced Wednesday.

Torres-Springer resigned as first deputy mayor along with three other deputy mayors in protest in the spring after Hizzoner cozied up to the Trump administration as the feds moved to dismiss his criminal case.

Elana Leopold, a de Blasio admin alum who worked on Mamdani’s campaign, will serve as executive director.

Also named to the team were two other Blaz alums, Grace Bonilla and Melanie Hartzog, plus Lina Khan, who served as FTC chair under President Joe Biden.
