A home owned by Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra in Coral Gables, Fla., sustained major damage after a fire early Thursday morning, according to multiple reports. Spoelstra was not present at the residence when the fire broke out, and there were no reports of injuries, according to the Associated Press.
The fire was reported at 4:36 a.m. at a home on Southwest 80th Street. The Heat played in Denver on Wednesday night, and the team plane didn’t land in Miami until 5:11 a.m. ET, according to the AP.
Spoelstra headed to the home soon after returning to Miami, the AP reported. There was smoke visible coming from the property around 8 a.m., but the fire had been largely contained.
The Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue didn’t immediately respond to a phone call from The Athletic.
In a video posted by Florida TV station WPLG Local 10, a man the station identified as Spoelstra is shown outside the home watching the fire with his hands on his head. The clip begins at 1:33.
Miami-Dade Fire battalion chief Victoria Byrd told reporters on the scene that more than 20 units responded to the fire. She said the flames were extinguished before the fire spread to other homes.
Spoelstra bought the five-bedroom, six-bathroom Coral Gables home in December 2023, according to the AP.
