Jamie Carragher has a unique relationship with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund that has gone from strength to strength since he was joined supporters in the famous ‘yellow wall’ at the club’s Signal Iduna Park last year. Prior to kick off, fans in Dortmund’s black and yellow colours join together to sing and create a lively atmosphere.
Carragher memorably caused chaos when Dortmund beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Champions League in 2024. Working in Germany for CBS Sport, the former Liverpool defender admitted to having drunk “about eight pints” as he stepped in front of the live CBS cameras after the game.
The pundit proceeded to initiate and conduct an impromptu interview with former Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. He finished the interview by asking Sancho if they could have a few pints together if Dortmund reached the Champions League final.
The latest Dortmund game was not as eventful for Carragher, but he still found himself spending time with the travelling German fans as their side took on Manchester City in the league phase of the Champions League, a game they eventually lost 4-1.
A video shared by CBS Sports Golazo showed the moment Carragher reunited with the Dortmund fans last night, November 5. Carragher said: “Had such a great time with the Dortmund fans last time in Dortmund.
“This time, I wouldn’t say they are on my patch but it is not far away. They are marching now to the Etihad Stadium, big game tonight in the Champions League, Manchester City against Borussia Dortmund so I am going to get back in with my mates like I did on the yellow wall.”
Carragher was given a can of Carlsberg by a fan, as he said “they are giving me beers, what can I do? It is not my fault. I was told under no circumstances that I could have any beers today but I can’t say no to my friends.”

When he reached pitchside ahead of kick off, Carragher said: “I have been with the Dortmund fans today, our relationship is like a house on fire, we absolutely love the bones of each other.”
Carragher was also given a Dortmund scarf from a fan as they gathered to take selfies with him. He marched to Manchester City’s stadium with a Dortmund scarf on and cheering with the fans.
Jamie continued to enjoy his time in Manchester ahead of kick off with Peter Schmeichel as he danced to the light show held by City before every home game. He shouted over the mic: “This is table time” as Micah Richard questioned why he was “so stiff” before adding “Bonfire Night, go on Jamie, give us your best moves lad.”
Earlier this week, Carragher spoke about the response of Anfield to Trent Alexander-Arnold as he returned to the stadium for the first time as a Real Madrid player.
Carragher told CBS Sports: “I think the supporters decide what type of reception he gets and the reason why the reception will be poor tonight, which I would expect, is because Trent throughout those 20 years, as I’ve said, has played the position of ‘I’m a supporter on the pitch’
“So them supporters who are all in this stadium wouldn’t leave on a free transfer to go play for Real Madrid. Now, okay, it’s his career, he gets one career, he’s a young man, he’s been brilliantly successful at the club.
“But what he’s said since he’s got in the team, if that were to be true, and Liverpool is the only team for him and he wants to be their captain, he wants to be a legend here, you don’t leave when you’ve just won the league title and you’ve got the opportunity to go win more trophies with your club.”
