‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Drops First Look at Animated Spinoff Set Between Seasons 2 and 3 With New Voice Cast

The Upside Down is getting animated.
Netflix dropped the first look and teaser at “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85,” an animated spinoff of the streamer’s beloved sci-fi series arriving next year. It’s set between Seasons 2 and 3 of “Stranger Things” and features a new cast voicing the iconic students of Hawkins, Indiana.
The logline teases, “Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town in ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85,’ an epic new animated series.”
Instead of “Stranger Things” stars Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp and David Harbour, “Tales From ’85” will introduce newcomers stepping in for their voices. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt will voice Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport is Max, Luca Diaz is Mike, Ej (Elisha) Williams is Lucas, Braxton Quinney is Dustin, Ben Plessala is Will, and Brett Gipson is Hopper. Additional voice cast members are Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips.

Eric Robles is the showrunner, and “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producers along with Hilary Leavitt via Upside Down Pictures, Shawn Levy via 21 Laps and Dan Cohen.
“When we started talking about, was there anything else we wanted to do with ‘Stranger Things,’ this was one of our first ideas,” the Duffer Bros. said in the teaser. “The idea was to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon. With animation, there’s really no limits. Eric and his team can go wild, and they have.”
“What we have been able to capture is the magic of Hawkins in a new way,” Robles said. “Our story takes place between Seasons 2 and 3, but we soon learn that nothing is quite as they thought it was. So get your flashlight and backpack, because it’s going to be amazing.”
