Mumbai airport customs seized narcotics worth over Rs 13 crore and foreign currency valued at Rs 87 lakh,

Mumbai: In five separate cases, the Customs Zone-III at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) seized narcotics worth over Rs 13 crore and foreign currency valued at Rs 87 lakh and arrested five persons.In the first case, a passenger arriving from Colombo was caught with 2.568 kg of hydroponic weed (Marijuana) valued at Rs 2.56 crore, concealed inside a trolley bag. In another case, a passenger from Bangkok was found carrying 2.39 kg of hydroponic weed hidden inside chocolate and chips packets. A third passenger from Bangkok was intercepted with 1.144 kg of hydroponic weed concealed in shampoo bottles.In the fourth interception, officers recovered 6.975 kg of hydroponic weed worth Rs 6.97 crore from a passenger’s trolley bag arriving from Bangkok.In a separate case, a passenger arriving from Dubai was found carrying foreign currency equivalent to Rs 87 lakh, concealed in a checked-in bag.All arrested passengers have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigations are underway.
