Justin Fields sent a clear message to Myles Garrett and the Browns before their Week 10 meeting with the Jets

The Cleveland Browns are set to return to action in Week 10 for a matchup against the New York Jets. Considering how both teams have struggled this season, this figures to be a good opportunity for the Browns to get back in the win column. And it sounds like Jets’ quarterback Justin Fields knows he’s got his work cut out for him in this one.

While Cleveland has struggled on offense this season, its defense, led by superstar defensive lineman Myles Garrett, has been one of the best units in the league. Ahead of this contest, Fields opened up on the challenge of facing the Browns’ defense, and he doesn’t seem too excited to be lining up against Garrett.

Justin Fields Praises Browns’ Defense Before Week 10 Meeting

Much has been made of the Browns’ offense this season, and it isn’t too hard to see why. With the team having one of the most intriguing quarterback situations entering the year, folks were curious to see how that situation would shake out and whether or not the offense would be able to have any success this season.

Cleveland quickly replaced Joe Flacco with Dillon Gabriel under center, but no matter who has been playing at quarterback, the Browns have struggled. Thanks to their star-studded defense, though, the team has largely managed to remain more competitive than expected this season. If Cleveland can get any sort of offensive production, it usually has a shot of pulling off an upset victory.

Against the Jets, the Browns are actually favored to win for once, due in large part to the fact that New York just shipped two of its best defensive players (Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams) to new teams at the trade deadline. Without them, more pressure has been placed on Fields, and he appears to know that he could be in for a long day against Garrett and the rest of Cleveland’s defense.

“I think they have one of the top defenses in the league,” Fields admitted on Thursday. “Of course, they have (Garrett) on the other side of the ball. Great player, so first and foremost, taking care of him. Great second-level defenders, too, and DBs as well. They trust their DBs a lot; they play a lot of man coverage. It’s gonna be about really just executing on our side of the ball, and like I said, taking care of (Garrett) and making sure he doesn’t wreck the game.”

Garrett is coming off one of the most impressive performances of his career in Week 8, as he sacked New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye five times, while also forcing a fumble. It didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, though, as the Browns still suffered a 32-13 loss when all was said and done.

Individual performances are nice, but at the end of the day, everyone in Cleveland wants to win, including Garrett. If the defense can pressure Fields and mix up their coverages in the secondary, there’s a decent chance they will be able to lead their team to victory. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
