Govt committed to supporting homegrown technology – Sam George

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to supporting homegrown technological innovation, describing local Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions as central to Ghana’s digital transformation and self-reliance agenda.

Speaking during a courtesy call by officials of Dodo Technologies Limited, a Ghanaian AI and communication technology company, the Minister said the government’s digital policy framework prioritises indigenous innovation, data sovereignty, and digital governance as the foundation for national development.

“Empowering local innovators is not just a policy choice — it’s a national imperative,” he said.

“We are committed to building a self-reliant and inclusive digital economy that reflects our identity and harnesses Ghanaian creativity to solve Ghanaian problems.”

The delegation from Dodo Technologies briefed the Minister on preparations for the upcoming Dodo Summit 2025, scheduled for December 10, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Auditorium. The event will be held under the theme “The End of Fragmented Communication.”

Sam George lauded the company for developing indigenous AI tools aimed at streamlining communication and service delivery across public and private sectors. He directed the firm to collaborate with the Director of Innovations at the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Ofori, for a technical assessment and possible pilot of their communication system within select government institutions.

The Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dodo Technologies, Kane Mani, explained that the company’s innovation seeks to “end fragmented communication” by integrating internal communication, customer engagement, and public interaction into a unified AI-driven platform — fully developed in Ghana.

“Our technology is 100% Ghanaian-built. It demonstrates that with the right support and policy direction, Ghanaian innovators can create world-class solutions that meet Africa’s needs,” Mr. Mani said.

He added that the Dodo Summit 2025 will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and tech enthusiasts to discuss AI policy, digital governance, and the future of communication on the continent.

The Minister’s endorsement of Dodo Technologies underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing local talent, promoting innovation-driven growth, and positioning Ghana as a hub for African digital excellence.
