Army football vs. Temple live updates, Week 11 game score, highlights

A steadily improving defense has carried the day for Army football over the past month.

Army (4-4) has won three of its last four games, allowing 61 points during those contests – and that includes allowing 14 points in the final two minutes of a 24-17 loss at Tulane. For the season, Army ranks third in the American Conference at 23.1 points allowed (trailing only East Carolina at 16.8 and Memphis at 19.2).

The Black Knights will make their final push toward bowl eligibility with a Saturday noon ET matchup with Temple (5-4) – Army must win two of its next three games to become eligible before the Dec. 7 announcements.

The Black Knights are coming off a stirring 20-17 late-game victory at Air Force on Nov. 1, keeping alive their hopes to regain the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy (requiring a win over Navy on Dec. 13).

In the latest win over the Falcons, Army posted three takeaways, on two picks by Gavin Shields and Casey Larkin and a fumble recovery by Deshontez Grey after a strip sack by Cole Searight.

“We’re excited about the turnovers,” said Army defensive coordinator Nate Woody. He said Army’s ability to stop the run presented the opportunities for interceptions and credited his defense for keeping leverage on the receivers.

The last time Army posted a +3 turnover margin was the 2024 win over Air Force, a year after posting a +6 on the Falcons in a 2023 win in Denver.

“I would say that a lot of guys are just turning heads and just gaining confidence,” Shields said. “It was just like everyone settling in, getting used to playing with each other … and the (defensive) line getting way more comfortable. … There’s been a little bit more confidence in each other.”

Army’s defense is allowing 201.9 yards passing per game and 145.1 yards on the ground. Temple is throwing for 209.3 yards per game and rushing for 162.9.

Temple is coming off a 45-14 home loss to East Carolina on Nov. 1.

The game kicks off at 12 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
