Howell Named Lombardi Award Semifinalist

HOUSTON – Texas A&M’s Cashius Howell was named a semifinalist for the 2025 Lombardi Award, which honors the nation’s top college linemen and linebackers who embody the discipline, character, and excellence of legendary coach Vince Lombardi.
Howell, a senior from Kansas City, Missouri, leads the SEC with 9.5 sacks, and he has accumulated 34 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. He has logged at least 1.0 sack in five-of-eight games, including a career-high 3.0 against Utah State.
The 6-2, 248-pound defensive end was named Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Utah State when he sacked the Aggie signal-caller on three straight plays. Additionally, Howell has been selected the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week three times. Howell was chosen to Midseason All-America teams by the Associated Press, Athlon, The Athletic, CBS Sports and The Sporting News.
Now in its 52nd year, the Lombardi Award™ has been presented annually in Houston, Texas, since its inception in 1970. This year’s award ceremony will take place on December 10, 2025, with proceeds from gala sponsorships and table and ticket sales benefiting cancer research.
The Lombardi Award™ was established in memory of Coach Vince Lombardi by the Rotary Club of Houston. The award represents more than the distinction involved; it honors players who best exemplify Lombardi’s enduring principles of leadership, courage, and discipline. The 2025 semifinalists have set themselves apart through exceptional ability in their respective positions, perseverance, and impact on their teams, continuing a legacy that inspires future generations of athletes.
