Glen Powell’s Stephen King Remake Gets an Honest Verdict From the Legendary Horror Author

Glen Powell has given us numerous exciting films. After breaking out in Top Gun: Maverick as the pompous Hangman, donning multiple disguises in Hit Man, and playing an annoyingly adorable part in Anyone But You, the actor has showcased a brilliant range. Now he’s collaborating with director Edgar Wright to bring us a remake of Stephen King’s iconic story, The Running Man. We are only a week away from the new movie, but the reviews from people who have seen it, including King, are glowing, adding more hype to the dystopian action thriller.
The trailer of The Running Man promises an unhinged ride, a deathly competition, and Powell in a physically demanding role. Comparisons can be made to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s original movie, but with Wright’s vision and a bold decision to change the ending, it will give fans a completely new experience, which King appreciates. Wright revealed in a new profile interview with King’s response to the new movie, the horror icon said:
“Like it? I love it! It’s faithful enough to the book to keep the fans happy, but different enough to make it exciting for me.”
‘The Running Man’ Has Approval From All Around the Industry
Wright and Powell’s upcoming movie is the second adaptation of King’s novel. The original 1987 movie was headlined by Schwarzenegger, who also praised the new adaptation. “He was so excited that the Stephen King book we put on screen,” Powell said, adding, “It’s really the first time Stephen’s vision has been properly adapted. He just kept saying, ‘It’s incredible.’” The action legend also praised Powell’s action-heavy performance, “But the first thing he told me was, ‘This was a very painful movie for you.’…He’s like, ‘One of the hardest action movies – those are just not easy things to get right.'”
Schwarzenegger isn’t the only action star praising Powell, as the movie also has Tom Cruise’s approval. “He was so stoked after watching it. What’s been amazing about my relationship with Tom is that he’s a guy who doesn’t hide his excitement. He loves the theatrical experience, working hard, and putting your body on the line to entertain audiences,” Powell revealed previously. Along with Powell, the movie also stars William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin.
