Lions OL Allen ruled out, RB Butler questionable for Western final matchup vs. Roughriders

The BC Lions will be without one of the top linemen in the CFL, and could be without one of the top running backs north of the border as well.

Offensive tackle Dejon Allen (arm) has been ruled out for Saturday’s Western final against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The 31-year-old was a limited participant in BC’s first two practices of the week, but did not participate during the final session on Thursday.

The 2023 Most Outstanding Lineman only played in five games in 2025, but did compete in BC’s final two regular-season contests. Allen also missed last week’s Western semi-final win over the Calgary Stampeders, with Chris Schleuger filling in.

Running back James Butler is also in doubt for Saturday’s contest as he is dealing with an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old was a limited participant all week and is officially listed as questionable.

Butler bounced back with a fantastic year along the ground after an injury-riddled 2024 campaign, posting 1,213 yards (third in the CFL) and 11 touchdowns (first). The Chicago native also made 46 catches for 439 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Also ruled out for the Lions are linebackers Adam Konar (arm) and Maxime Rouyer (hip), as well as defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile (elbow).
