Wednesday’s comfortable Champions League victory over Athletic Bilbao saw Newcastle bounce back from last week’s woeful performance in a 3-1 defeat to West Ham but, like the majority of their strong performances, that 2-0 victory came at St James’ Park.
The Magpies have won six of their last eight matches yet only one of those victories came on the road. Eddie Howe’s side are without a win in eight Premier League away games and that record is unlikely to improve at Brentford.
A repeat performance of last Sunday’s London Stadium showing, in which they lost the expected-goals (xG) battle with a poor West Ham side 1.7-0.5, would result in a third straight away loss and Brentford are good enough to inflict that.
