Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams says team is ‘going in with an edge’ ahead of Commanders game

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams discussed the team’s mindset heading into this week’s game against a familiar opponent in the Washington Commanders.
“We’re going in with an edge,” said Williams. “It’s nothing, though. We look at it as another game that we got to come out victorious. Coming off last week, we’re just looking forward to getting back on track of winning.”
When asked about the Commanders’ defensive back seven, Williams acknowledged their strength but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to attack.
“I feel like we got one of the best rooms in the nation, so we’re not worried,” Williams said.
Williams reflected on his performance last week against the Minnesota Vikings, where he caught four of six targets for 66 yards and one touchdown, breaking through in the second half with a deep catch despite the team’s loss.
“It felt good, but at the same time, I can’t feel too good because we got an L on the record. We just focused on this week coming up,” said Williams.
Regarding advice from former players, Williams said he hadn’t seen Super Bowl champion Keyshawn Johnson’s message but was open to learning from legends.
“I’m all ears for whatever is needed for me to be heard,” Williams said.
Williams also addressed comments from Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rogers about his touchdown catch, joking, “Sometimes you get away with stuff like that.”
On helping quarterback Jared Goff handle pressure, Williams emphasized the importance of receivers getting open quickly.
“We just got to get open faster to help him, giving him a target to hit before the pressure even gets there,” Williams said.
Williams spoke about rookie receiver Isaac TeSlaa’s involvement on the team, noting, “He’s happy to be here, involved, engaged. I talked to him a lot, and I don’t see any discouragement.”
He highlighted TeSlaa’s route-running ability as a valuable complement to the Lions’ receiving corps.
“He can run routes, he can get open, and that’s the main thing we need with this offense,” Williams said.
Williams was surprised to learn that punter Jack Fox has speed, as evidenced by his wheels when he tackled Rodgers on a blocked field goal.
“No, but he’s from St. Louis, so I can’t put it past him,” Williams said.
Look for the Lions to get back on track against a banged-up Washington team, which is expected to be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
Kickoff is slated for 4:25 p.m.
