Magic

The Magic are still taking it slow with Jalen Suggs. He is coming off season-ending knee surgery from March and Orlando has kept him on a minutes restriction to start the year.

Through seven games, he is only averaging 19.6 minutes.

Coach Jamahl Mosley was asked on Friday when Suggs may get bumped up. He did not offer a target date, per Jason Beede of The Orlando Sentinel.

“You’d like to try and ramp him up a little bit more but you want to be careful for the long haul of the season, being smart with it,” Mosley said. “The more we can get his minutes up, the better it’ll be because then there’s a routine and a continuity that can happen when you’d have similar lineups on the floor.”

Even with the light workload, Suggs has been one of the most productive Magic players. He is averaging 11 points and four assists while shooting 55 percent from the field and 44 percent from deep.

Orlando is plus-14.5 when he is out there and minus-5.9 when he is not.

Heat

Erik Spoelstra spoke publicly Friday after the fire that destroyed his family home early Thursday morning. Nobody was injured and the family dog is safe.

Spoelstra said the outpouring from the community has been overwhelming, per Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press.

“I just want to thank everybody for this overwhelming support,” Spoelstra said. “The South Florida community has just been absolutely remarkable. People reaching out, wanting to help.

“It has been uniquely challenging for our family but Spoelstras are resilient.”

Wizards

Bilal Coulibaly missed his second straight game Saturday with a left calf contusion, as relayed by Josh Robbins of The Athletic. He already missed the first four games of the season while recovering from thumb surgery.

Also worth noting for Wizards fans. The league confirmed Saturday there was a scoring error in Friday’s loss to the Cavaliers.

With 8:15 left in the second quarter, rookie guard Tre Johnson made both free throws but the first was incorrectly recorded as a miss. The NBA corrected it the next morning. The box score now reads 148 to 115 instead of 148 to 114.

It did not change the outcome. Cleveland had that one under control.
