Anfernee Simons is the Celtics ‘Name to Know’ Player of the Game in Sunday’s win over Magic

The Celtics split their mini series against the Magic, picking up a much-needed 111-107 win Sunday in Orlando. Multiple bench players stepped up in a huge way, led by Anfernee Simons going off early. The C’s are now 5-6 on the season after their latest clutch win, this time against the Magic.

Simons did plenty of damage in the first half of the victory, making him Sunday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.

Simons finished with 25 points, all scored in the first half, as it felt like he couldn’t miss over that stretch. The Celtics fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter as part of another slow start, so Simons helped them out of the deficit. Simons finished 8-for-13 from the field, including 5-for-8 on 3-pointers. He added a rebound and three assists on the night.

It was a slow start in Friday’s loss to the Magic for Simons, who played just two minutes in the first half. It was partly because other guys stepped up, but Simons also had some lapses in his play. But he bounced back by scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter to help the Celtics try to put together a comeback bid.

Simons showed off his scoring abilities in the first half, though he was quiet in the second. The Celtics leaned on other bench guys, whether it was Jordan Walsh or Luka Garza, to pull off the victory and play clutch minutes.

The Celtics have fluctuated near the .500 mark to open the year. They face the 76ers next on Tuesday in Philadelphia, which should be another test.
