A man claimed he was questioned over his disability by an Asda delivery driver as his shopping was delivered at his home. Necati Ayhan had ordered his shopping to be delivered on Friday, October 31, to his flat on Lord Street in Southport town centre.
The 22-year-old said when the delivery arrived, the driver asked for his help in carrying the shopping up the stairs. However, Necati explained to the driver that due to being disabled, he was unable to do so.
Necati, who has fibromyalgia, autism, as well as other medical conditions, said he heard the delivery driver say “disabled my a**e”, before returning to the van to get more of the order. In a voice recording heard by the ECHO, Necati questions the delivery driver on why he said the comment, to which the driver replies: “You don’t look disabled to me.”
The student, who attends West Lancs College part-time studying child care, then asks whether the driver thinks he is able to judge him, to which he replies: “Yes.”
As the conversation continues, the driver explains how he “whispered it” and said how Necati should have made it clear that he was disabled when making the order online.
Necati is then heard telling the driver to return his shopping to the supermarket before booking a taxi to the store on Central 12 in the town centre.

Here, Necati claimed he made a formal complaint before being given a £30 voucher for the store to help with the costs of the taxi.
Necati told the ECHO: “It was shocking. He made me feel degraded, embarrassed and terrible about the whole thing.
“I need to tackle the issue and I want the outcome of the investigation to come to light. It’s arrogance from the driver.
“It would have been completely different if I had been in a wheelchair. I actually have a wheelchair, I need it when I go out, but not when I’m at home.”

Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body, according to the NHS, and can cause other symptoms such as muscle stiffness, difficulty sleeping, cognitive issues and headaches.
He also claimed that when he lodged his complaint at the store, he was told it would be investigated but he would not be notified of the outcome.
A spokesperson for Asda said: “We’re aware of Mr Ayhan’s complaint and are looking into it as a priority.”
