The “summer” party may be over.
While still officially fall, warm weekend conditions in Southwest Florida probably had most feeling that there’s no way winter begins in about a month.
An Arctic cold front moves into southern Florida early Monday as Collier County braces for a dramatic temperature shift.
There’s enough concern about the cold that St. Matthew’s House on Sunday said it would open its emergency shelters starting Monday for people to get out of the cold.
The shelter will be open through Wednesday.
Big chill coming Monday
People will notice gusty winds and a sharp drop in temperatures, with the coldest conditions expected Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Meteorologist Sammy Hadi told the Naples Daily News that Monday’s high will be between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Then temperatures will start to plummet ― fast.
Temperatures are expected to peak in the upper 70s, then drop to the upper 60s by late afternoon and drop into the low 60s by 8 p.m.
What about winds as temps plummet
Winds will be sustained at 15–20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph across coastal Collier County on Monday,the National Weather Service says.
Expect the lowest temperatures by Monday night into Tuesday morning, with coastal lows in the mid-40s and inland lows in the low 40s.
Wind chills in Inland Collier County will reach the mid to upper 30s, while coastal Collier County will see actual lows in the mid-40s, with wind chills in the low 40s.
Tuesday, highs are forecast at 65 degrees, down from near 85 Sunday.
What about the rest of Florida
Some regions of North Florida can expect the first frost and freeze of the season and chill temperatures will reach below Central Florida in the coming days.
