School Holiday Update for November 11: Schools in Several States to Remain Closed Due to Elections and Air Quality Concerns

Most schools across India resumed regular classes last week following festive holidays and weather-related closures. However, specific regions will experience school closures tomorrow, November 11, due to assembly elections and deteriorating air quality.

In the Delhi-NCR region, schools may shut down if the Air Quality Index (AQI) remains in the severe category, with some areas already reaching alarming pollution levels. Breathing in such polluted air poses significant health risks, comparable to smoking multiple cigarettes daily. Many schools in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad have already canceled outdoor activities, including school assemblies, to limit students’ exposure to toxic air. Air purifiers have been installed in school premises, and parents are encouraged to stay updated through the schools’ official communication channels.

In Bihar, schools across the districts participating in the assembly elections will also remain closed on November 11. Voting will be conducted in 122 assembly seats across 20 districts, and the government has mandated school closures to facilitate the electoral process.

Similarly, the Telangana government has announced a public holiday on November 11 in connection with the by-elections for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency. This closure applies to all educational institutions and government offices within the constituency.

In Jammu and Kashmir, schools will observe a holiday on November 11 due to bye-elections in the Budgam and Nagrota constituencies.

Conversely, schools in Anupshahr, located in Bulandshahr district, will remain open. Classes resumed last Friday following a brief closure associated with a traditional festival.

As for states recently impacted by Cyclone Montha—namely Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Odisha—most schools and colleges have reopened. Nevertheless, mixed weather with potential rain and thunderstorms is forecasted for the upcoming week, which may affect attendance and schedules.

Parents are advised to monitor school updates via official WhatsApp groups to stay informed about any last-minute changes, including cancellations due to inclement weather. This digital communication method ensures timely notifications regarding school operations.

Looking ahead, several notable school holidays are scheduled in November. November 9 marks Uttarakhand Foundation Day, though it falls on a Sunday this year. Children’s Day on November 14 is recognized in schools but is not a public holiday. November 15 will see schools closed in Jharkhand for its foundation day, while November 24 honors Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with closures in several northern states.

As conditions evolve, parents and students should remain vigilant in tracking local announcements to ensure their preparedness for any changes to school schedules.
