‘Traded it for a seat in Trump’s shadow’: Josh Shapiro tears JD Vance apart, accuses him of exploiting religion for personal goals

It hasn’t been long since JD Vance, a loyal Trump supporter and the Vice President of the United States, gained significant traction online after almost candidly admitting on television that his main role is to take orders from the President. He is now back in the news, but this time not for his own actions. Instead, he is in the spotlight because someone has shed light on what Vance truly represents.
During a press conference on Friday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro harshly criticised JD Vance for his unwillingness to support millions of Americans who may go without food as their SNAP benefits are suspended during the ongoing government shutdown. Shapiro labelled Vance as “phoney” and stated that he did not “give a damn” about the American people, calling his behaviour “shameful.” He also accused Vance of hypocrisy. Referring to Vance’s 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, Shapiro highlighted that a significant part of Vance’s popularity came from his upbringing in Appalachia, where many people benefit from SNAP, as mentioned in the book, yet he refuses to lend a helping hand to those he profited from.

Josh Shapiro also condemned JD Vance for weaponising religion and the Christian faith against the American people, asserting that their faith does not support the things Vance is promoting. Speaking about him, Shapiro said:
“He claims to be a person of faith. I know my Bible. And my Bible teaches us that we are to love thy neighbor and we are to feed the hungry… Folks gotta wake up and realize the people who are leading in America quite literally wanna keep people hungry. And you’ll excuse me for getting emotional about it, but when I see people in my state who are hungry because of Vance’s bulls*** politics, that makes me angry.”

Josh Shapiro’s strong words of criticism reached the masses via social media, and most of them agreed with him. On X (formerly Twitter), one person wrote:
“Josh Shapiro reminded America that JD Vance once had a brain and then traded it for a seat in Trump’s shadow.”
Another wrote:
JD uses his faith when he wants to score political points, but even Pope Leo XIV has said that Vance is “wrong” on the ordo amoris & that “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others”. JD was using it to justifying not caring about what happens to migrants & refugees.”
