Buccaneers release fan-favorite Steelers safety — will Pittsburgh bring him back?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the perfect opportunity to right a major wrong — to bring back S Sebastian Castro, who was just released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On Sunday, the Buccaneers waived Castro to make room for OT Luke Goedeke, who was activated from Injured Reserve ahead of Tampa Bay’s Week 10 matchup vs. the New England Patriots.
The Buccaneers signed Castro off the Steelers’ practice squad on September 30, dashing hopes of his early contributions to Pittsburgh’s defense.
Considered one of the best run-stopping defensive backs ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Castro ultimately went undrafted but signed with Pittsburgh on April 26. He was waived on August 26 as part of final roster cuts but re-signed with the Steelers’ practice squad the next day.
With the Steelers’ secondary still continuing to reshape its identity, Castro would make a perfect addition to the defense — offering key depth at both safety and slot cornerback.
