One of the stars of the hit Netflix series Wednesday just revealed their dream casting for an iconic Addams Family character who hasn’t appeared on the show yet. Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy.
The series has an average score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes after two seasons. Wednesday season 3 is expected to begin filming in 2026, with a likely 2027 release date on the popular streaming service.
While speaking to Variety, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Wednesday’s mother, Morticia Addams, was asked about celebrities who should show up on Wednesday next after Lady Gaga’s guest appearance. The actress barely hesitated before saying that Danny DeVito should join the cast since she already knows him through her husband, Michael Douglas; the two were roommates several decades ago.
Zeta-Jones was actually thinking about this very topic recently when she saw DeVito in New York to celebrate her and Douglas’ birthdays in September. She thought to herself, “Why isn’t Danny DeVito in Wednesday?“
When asked about which character DeVito should play, she hesitated for a moment before admitting he should be cast as Cousin Itt, a character who has yet to show up on the series. Zeta-Jones then admitted that DeVito’s “going to kill me” for suggesting that idea since he would have to “put hair all over” his face. However, she still thinks it would be “so cool” to see DeVito as Cousin Itt. Check out her comments below:

The casting for Wednesday has received wide praise so far. Aside from Ortega and Zeta-Jones, Wednesday‘s cast stars Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Steve Buscemi, Isaac Ordonez, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Fred Armisen, Joanna Lumley, Joonas Suotamo, and Victor Dorobantu.
Cousin Itt, whose entire body is covered in hair, first appeared in the 1964 series The Addams Family, with Felix Silla and Roger Arroyo playing the iconic character in the very first show.

John Franklin took over the role for the movies The Addams Family and Addams Family Values, with Phil Fondacaro playing him in Addams Family Reunion and David Mylrea in the series The New Addams Family.
The voice of Cousin Itt was typically provided by different individuals than the actors who physically played him on-screen. In various Addams Family animated projects, John Stephenson, Pat Fraley, and Snoop Dogg voiced the role of Cousin Itt.
DeVito is an award-winning actor who has starred in such films as One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms of Endearment, Twins, Matilda, and shows like Taxi, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
While new cast members for Wednesday season 3 haven’t been revealed yet, and it hasn’t been confirmed if Cousin Itt will show up next season, DeVito playing that role would certainly make a lot of headlines.
The downside of casting someone as famous as DeVito is viewers wouldn’t be able to see or hear him on the show. As a result, Zeta-Jones’ casting idea might not work in reality, even if it sounds fantastic in theory. Only time will tell whether Cousin Itt shows up on Wednesday, but fans will likely be very excited by his arrival no matter which actor plays him.
