John Cena wins Intercontinental title, becomes Grand Slam Champion

John Cena’s career, spanning some 23 years, has featured over 20 major championship victories. He is one of the most decorated wrestlers in the history of WWE. Surprisingly, though, there is one title that eluded him for all that time.

The Intercontinental championship.

Wouldn’t you know it, he got the chance to right that wrong on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Boston.

Shortly after making a major announcement for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event special that he will retire on, Dominik Mysterio hit the scene to kick up some dust and cause an issue. Triple H was still in the ring, however, and by the time the confrontation was said and done, he was booking an Intercontinental championship match right then and there.

Said match featured a referee bump, of course, and it was then that Dirty Dom tapped to the STF. Cena followed up with an AA but that only got a close two count when a new referee ran in. Mysterio managed to make a comeback, with a 619 and frog splash, but Cena rolled right through, hit another AA, and got the three count.

John Cena is now a Grand Slam Champion.

One would presume this means whomever wins the tournament to crown his final opponent will be getting a shot at the title too.
