The Met Office has placed several areas of the UK under yellow weather warnings for rain today, November 11. The warnings come as the UK will see further changeable weather this week, with spells of heavy and persistent rain and drier, brighter interludes, before cooler air moves in from the north.
Yellow warnings for rain have been issued for southwest Scotland, southern Wales, southwest England and Northern Ireland today as bands of rain move across the country from the southwest. The weather agency says further warnings may be issued so it is “important to keep up to date” with the forecast.
Met Office Chief Forecaster, Neil Armstrong, said: “The UK is in for an unsettled week of weather, with frequent spells of heavy rain and at times strong, gusty winds.
“Given recent wet weather and saturated ground in places, this could lead to some flooding. Difficult travelling conditions are also expected, with delays and the increased possibility of accidents.”
Mr Armstrong continued: “There will be spells of drier and brighter weather at times, and temperatures will begin to fall closer to average for the time of year from the north.

“We will see a return of below freezing temperatures in Scotland overnight, with even the chance of some snow over mountains on Wednesday night.”
The Met Office reports that by the weekend much of the UK will be under the “cooler airmass” with overnight frosts in places, and while there will still be some showers around it’ll be a much drier and brighter spell of weather.
The main exception is in the south and southwest, where it may still be somewhat cloudier and milder with some patchy rain for a time, before this eventually clears. While Merseyside isn’t under a weather warning, the forecast indicates wet weather is expected.
For this evening, the Met Office says for the north west: “Remaining wet with further spells of heavy rain this evening, however drier interludes will become more prolonged by the early hours of Wednesday morning. Mild and still rather cloudy. Minimum temperature 8C.”
In its outlook for the north west from Thursday to Saturday, forecasters say: “Remaining unsettled with further periods of rain, these heavy and persistent for some, interspersed with drier, clearer intervals. Staying breezy, and feeling colder with temperatures returning to average by Friday.”
Areas of Central Tayside & Fife, south west Scotland, Lothian Borders and Strathclyde are all under a yellow weather warning for rain. This alert is active from 10am today and will be lifted at 11.59pm this evening. An alert is in place for areas of Northern Ireland from 6am today until 9pm this evening.
Areas of Wales are under a yellow weather alert from 7am until 11.59pm this evening and in south west England, a yellow alert is in place from 12pm this afternoon until 11.59pm this evening.
