While Veterans Day is both a federal and Florida holiday, school districts in the state decide what days to close schools.
Most, but not all, schools in Florida’s 67 counties, will be closed today for Veterans Day.

Is Veterans Day a federal holiday? How many are there in 2025?
In 2025, there are 12 instead of the usual 11 federal holidays, although two — Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day — fell on the same day in January.

Why is there school for some Florida counties and not others on Veterans Day?
The decision is made by individual school districts.
What will be closed for Veterans Day?
- Government offices, both federal and Florida offices, will be closed. Remember, some federal offices and services have already been affected by the shutdown.
- There will be no mail delivery on Veterans Day and post offices will be closed.
- Stock markets are open on Veterans Day, but bond markets are typically closed.
- Publix, Walmart, Target and other grocery stores and businesses are usually open for the holiday.
