Power restored to Kerry homes and businesses

Power has been restored to thousands of homes and businesses following a major outage affecting much of the North Kerry.

Up to 20,000 homes and businesses were without electricity in the county this morning for around three hours following the sudden outage.

Businesses in many locations including in Tralee town were forced to close losing a significant amount of financial income particularly local coffee shops who are reliant on morning coffee drinkers.

Power was also out at University Hospital Kerry but they have a generator for such an emergency.

Supermarkets were also affected with paying for produce the biggest obstacle as card machines were not in operation.

Even traffic lights were not working in the town of Tralee during the several hours of the power outage.

More than 11,000 properties without power in Tralee alone.

The Kilflynn area, which account for approximately 8,000 homes and businesses was also affected.
