Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute (CCVI) teacher Amanda McAlpine recently won a bronze medal at the Veterans World Judo Championships in Paris, France.

“Thank you, Coach Ron Angus and Tracy Angus and club mates, family, and friends… and everyone for your support along the way and for being in my corner,” McAlpine, who competed in the Female 78+ kg category, wrote in a Facebook post after the win.

This dynamic blend of experience directly strengthens my capacity to support students through programs such as ‘S.T.R.O.N.G.‘ within our school board and beyond,” McAlpine said.

This is not the first time McAlpine has competed in the championships. She won silver at the 2023 championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“It felt so great to see the time in and hard work pay off. Competing on a world platform with amazing athletes from all over the world was beyond expectation,” she told The Wellington Advertiser at the time.
