“Interviewing Next GM” – Patrick Dumont Sparks Online Chaos After Viral Courtside Encounter With Fan Wearing Luka Doncic Lakers Jersey

Patrick Dumont is not a popular figure in Dallas after approving Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison’s Luka Doncic trade to the LA Lakers in February. Dumont was seen speaking to a fan wearing a Doncic Lakers jersey on Monday, sparking chaos online.

Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News shared an image of Dumont at courtside before the start of the third quarter. The Mavericks’ governor was speaking with a fan wearing a No. 77 Doncic Lakers jersey. He was smiling despite the fan choosing an opposing team’s jersey over a Mavs one.

Dumont made headlines over the weekend after Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported that the Mavericks are looking into the future of Harrison. The team is off to a rough start, which has put the GM on the hot seat since he was the one who orchestrated the Doncic trade and built the current roster.

NBA fans online were quick to speculate about what Patrick Dumont talked about with the fan, who is clearly a Luka Doncic supporter. The majority of the Dallas Mavericks fanbase is still upset about the Doncic trade up to this day, so it will be interesting to know what happened between the two.

Some fans even joked that Dumont has started scouting for his next general manager to replace Nico Harrison. Here are some of the comments on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“haha hey so, sorry about that, didn’t really know who 77 was….. anyways”

Wait he knows this isn’t Luka right?

I hope he is telling him to fire Nico, apologize to Luka and hire a GM and coach who when Luka is a free agent next will bring him back.

If this guy convinces Dumont to fire Nico after the game they should make him the GM

Marc Stein reported that the Dallas Mavericks ownership is weighing on Nico Harrison’s future. Firing Nico Harrison could help repair the relationship with the fans, but it wouldn’t help the damage done by the Luka Doncic trade on the court.

Patrick Dumont weighed in on Anthony Davis’ injury, as per NBA insider

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, a longtime Dallas Mavericks beat reporter and insider, shared “internal disagreements” within the franchise. Team governor Patrick Dumont reportedly weighed in on Anthony Davis’ injury and the idea of letting him play if he’s not fully healthy.

“There was internal disagreement about whether that was a good idea (playing AD),” MacMahon said on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast. “One of the opinions that was involved here was Patrick Dumont. Patrick Dumont went from blind faith in Nico to weighing in on whether a star can come back from injury.”

MacMahon added that it’s only a matter of time before Dumont decides to let go of Harrison, possibly once the season is at its midway point around January.
