A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held today at Place du Canada in downtown Montreal to honour Canadian veterans and commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in service.

The ceremony will include a 21-gun salute and a flyover by helicopters from the 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

Several streets will be closed to traffic for the event, and traffic will be disrupted in this area, including Dorchester Square, Cathedral and Metcalfe streets. René-Lévesque Boulevard will also be closed in both directions.

The ceremony will “commemorate the sacrifice of generations of Canadians who have defended the honour of their country and the rest of the world in times of war, peace and military conflict,” a release by the federal government reads.

Montrealers are invited to attend the ceremony at Place du Canada. Designated seating areas will be available on site. Earplugs are recommended, especially for young children.

For those who can’t attend, CBC News will livestream the event beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET on the CBC News Quebec YouTube channel and in this story.

You can go here to see if a ceremony is being held closer to where you live. In some cases, they were held over the weekend.

People in the Quebec City area can attend a ceremony at the entrance of the Plains of Abraham.
