Babar Azam’s Horror Streak Extends, Now 83 Innings Without A Century Across Formats
Once world cricket’s run-machine and ton-machine, Babar Azam’s fall from grace has been scarcely believable.
It was not too long ago that Babar was at the very top of his game across formats, piling on the runs everywhere, making a serious claim to be one of the best all-format batters in the world.
Cut to November 2025, the 31-year-old is no longer impactful in Tests, is barely a part of his country’s T20I set-up and now cannot buy a run in ODIs, which was once his favourite format.
Today in Rawalpindi in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Babar endured yet another failure in ODIs to make it 33 innings without a ton in the format, averaging 33.73 since September 2023.
However, it’s not just in ODIs that he’s struggling as, overall, the right-hander has now gone 83 international innings without a century. His last ton came against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup, on August 30th.
Today against Sri Lanka, it was a struggle for the right-hander, who managed just 29 off 51 balls, batting at a strike rate of 56.86. He eventually got cleaned up by a straightforward googly from Wanindu Hasaranga, who went through the right-hander’s gate as Babar attempted an extravagant drive away from his body.
The 31-year-old’s last six ODI scores now read 29, 27, 11, 7, 9 & 0. He’s averaging 27.20 across 15 ODIs in 2025, which is the second-lowest among all batters with 15+ ODI innings this calendar year, with New Zealand’s Will Young (21.85) the only batter to have fared worse.
Babar is also averaging just 24.86 in 15 Tests since the start of 2023. In T20Is, meanwhile, he’s just made his way back into the set-up after being dropped for nearly 10 months.
